According to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) there are 36 BS/MD programs available. Unfortunately, that number is not even close.

Traditionally, when people talk about BS/MD programs they are talking about programs where students apply to college and medical school at the same time. Several of the programs listed by the AAMC are actually programs that are available after the student has started college. For instance, the Junior Honors Medical Program at the University of Florida College of Medicine, although called a BS/MD program, actually has students apply to the medical school during their sophomore year in college.  Several of the BS/MD programs listed by the AAMC are of this type of program.

Moreover, there are many actual BS/MD programs that are not listed by the AAMC.  University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine’s 6 Year BA/MD Program is not listed. Neither is the Pre-Professional Scholars Program at Case Western Reserve University.  And there are more.

So, how many colleges have agreements with medical colleges for a true BS/MD program? 70.  Yes, there are 70 colleges that admit freshman to a BS/MD program associated with the college.  This is a somewhat fluid number because some programs have closed in the past few years and several new ones have begun.  But if you are looking to apply to one of these programs there are many more available than the AAMC lists.
