The University of California Board of Regents announced that they were cutting freshman admissions by 2,300 students systemwide for this coming fall. The cuts are being made as a result of the budget problems facing the State of California.
Although the cuts are systemwide, freshman enrollment at UC Berkeley and UCLA will stay constant while freshman enrollment at UC Merced may grow.
Transfer enrollments will be increasing by 500 because of a large number of applications coming in from California community college students.
The California State University system had previously announced that they would be enrolling 10,000 fewer students in the fall of 2009.
