I must admit that I hesitated to even write this post since I think that college rankings are often misused and my personal feeling that there is no good way to rate a college using a system where there is a number rating. That being said, I try to provide news and information to my readers that I believe may help in some way.
The Institute for Higher Education Policy has put together a rankings clearinghouse with links to international and national ranking systems for colleges. This site provides not only links to the ranking systems themselves but also to various resources discussing college rankings around the world. In one place you can now find links to such ranking systems as U.S. News and Princeton Review as well as ratings from various countries around the world and international rankings comparing universities on a world wide basis. For those of you who have never looked at international college rankings you will note that American liberal arts colleges are not included. This is because universiites in other countries don’t have a similar type of educational system available.
As always, when looking at rankings, keep in mind that the particular ranking is based on one set of criteria only. Using other criteria will provide a ranking system with completely different results.
