When I am talking to prospective BS/MD students one of the issues that usually comes up is the strength of the student’s high school. And most people think that going to a strong high school will be an advantage when applying to BS/MD programs. But will it?
BS/MD programs do pay attention to the strength of your high school. But, what they care about even more, is how well you did in that high school. Being in the top quarter of the best high school in the country will not help you in a BS/MD program. Being in the top 1% of an average school will help you in BS/MD admissions.
You will get some benefit if you are in the top 5% of a very strong high school versus top 5% of an average high school.
Bottom line here is that what you do in high school is more important than the school you attend. Always keep that in mind.
