Debakey High School BS/MD Program with the Univeristy of Houston and Baylor Medical College

BCM

This BS/MD program has actually been around for some time but it applies to so few students that I have resisted discussing it. However, in an attempt to be as complete as possible, I have decided that it needs to be reviewed.

This 8 year program is for students of the Debakey High School, the University of Houston and the Baylor Medical College. This program is known as the Houston Premedical Academy.

To be eligible for the program students need a minimum 3.5 unweighted GPA and a core GPA including math, science and English of 3.2.  The minimum SAT score that will be considered is a 580 critical reading, 600 math and 520 writing.  The ACT can not be used for admission to this program.

Students interested in the BS/MD program need to complete two applications including one to the University of Houston and one to the Premedical Academy. The current deadline date is February 3 but this date changes so you should confirm the date if you are applying.

Students admitted to the program will be in the honors college at the University of Houston and may major in any subject. It is expected that students will also receive a minor in Medicine and Society as part of the program.

Ten students are admitted to the program each year.

To advance to the medical school students must have a 3.50 overall and science GPA. The MCAT is required with a score of 30 and no subscore less than 8.

The program is technically open to all US Citizens although you would need to be admitted to the high school to be considered for this program.

You can trust us to help you find the best college for your needs. We offer a FREE 1/2 hour consultation to discuss your needs for college admissions counseling. Give us a call now at 888-970-BSMD(2763) or drop us an email.
