Relying on friends for help in selecting a college

It is the start of fall and everyday I receive phone calls from the parents of seniors that have done nothing to start deciding where to apply to college.  One of the excuses the student often uses is that they can just rely on the advice of friends who have done their homework or of those students who are starting as freshman this year.

The problem with relying on your friends is that they have no more insight into how college admissions works than you do, even if they went through the process themselves. Each student’s needs are different and each college views applicants according to the needs of that college. Furthermore, what may be an appropriate college choice for your friend is not necessarily a good choice for you.

Experienced college admissions counselors have an expertise from years of experience as well as actual knowledge gained by visiting colleges all over the country. That expertise can provide the student with the tools needed to find the best college for their needs.  Does everyone need that kind of help? Absolutely not. But for those students looking at a selective college, or who are not sure what type of college might be best for their needs, a professional college admission counselor can provide invaluable help.

You can trust us to help you find the best college for your needs. We offer a FREE 1/2 hour consultation to discuss your needs for college admissions counseling. Give us a call now at 888-970-BSMD(2763) or drop us an email.
